Do you need Microsoft Office 1997 to use Microsoft Office 2003 Professional edition?

Q: I was trying to install Office 2003 Professional on a computer that had never had any version of Microsoft Office and it seems to say it cannot find Office 97, does that mean I need Office 1997 to use Office 2003? If not, what is my problem? Thank you so much for your time!

A: Do you have the full version of Office on an original Microsoft CD or some type of Update/Upgrade.
You don't have to have any previous versions to install 2003. It can be installed on a " virgin" system as long as Windows is present.

office professional is not suppose to depend on any previous version. please message me and tell me exactly what error you are getting so i can research this.

It sounds like you might have downloaded a trial version of newer software that makes it impossible to use Office 97 because you downloaded trials that change the content of the software.
You need to UnInstall All Of the Microsoft Office Software and then start all over with 97 unless you purchase the newer versions.

You do not need any previous version for 2003 to take effect. Are you sure you have the real thing from m/soft?
